Spring is the season associated with a great Christian feast, Easter. It is the season of rebirth and celebration. Easter in Sadova has a special meaning being celebrated with the same pathos, piety and traditionalism as in the time of our grandparents. The housewives prepare the pasca and roll eggs, which are symbols of the Easter holidays. Traditional dishes, such as roast lamb or roast lamb, are not missing from the tables of the Sadovans. The villagers dress up in their folk costumes and go to church for the resurrection service and to consecrate the carefully laid out dishes in a woven straw basket at dawn on Easter Day. To make the Easter experience complete, women in Sadova continue the tradition of egg-carving, an art passed down from generation to generation.
The white-washed mountain landscape beckons wherever you look. The houses are festively decorated, and the smell of cinnamon, cake and sarmales delights your senses. The tree painstakingly decorated by all the family members is waiting to house presents. Children wander through the village alleys, carolling from house to house and proclaiming the birth of the Lord, people become kinder, more empathetic, and the frost outside is tempered by the warmth that fills the hearts of the Sadovans. Sadova is the place where you can definitely get into the right mood for a genuine, peaceful and comfortable festive season.
In no other part of the country does the New Year have such a variety and richness of folkloric manifestations as in Bucovina. Handed down from generation to generation, the traditional Bucovina customs at the end of the year have come down to us today as grandiose spectacles that focus, as in the past, on the attention of the whole community.
The New Year is perceived in Sadova as a moment of renewal of time and of the world, of banishing evil spirits. New Year's Eve is seen as a party with family and friends, accompanied by games, dancing, plenty of food and drink and the traditional midnight customs that are highly appreciated: the ploughman, the sorcerer, the owl or peasant characters such as the Stag, the Goat, the Bear, the Whores, the Santas, the Babels and the Bunghieri.
Epiphany is a widespread Christian-Orthodox feast celebrated through customs common in most parts of the country. However, Sadova is different in that it preserves some ancient customs. Dressing up in folk costumes for Epiphany, the famous ice cross or the consecration of tables full of dishes made from the fruits of the earth are some of the customs that have long been lost, forgotten or that people in other parts of the country no longer take into account, but which are still preserved in Sadova.
